Day and Night Version of the Levee Park Splash Pad
We don’t often have an opportunity to shape the future, but that’s what is happening in East Peoria. East Peoria is being reborn, and a new community park is at the center of it all – Levee Park.
The park is set in the heart of the Levee District, adjacent to City Hall and Fondulac District Library. The East Peoria Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) established in 2014, embarked on a fundraising effort to transform the remainder of a 1½ acre site bound by Richland and Washington Streets into a major focal point for East Peoria.
The Foundation has already received significant donations from community supporters (individuals and companies) and state grants, which together provided the necessary $2 million funding for the first two phases. Already completed is a beautiful Reading Garden, a large multi-purpose plaza, a stage for entertainment, construction of restrooms, installation of utilities, and other infrastructure work.
Fundraising is now underway for the last phase, which is anticipated to cost about $1 million. Very soon our engineers will have completed preparing the necessary specifications so we can solicit bids for the final phase. Among other amenities, plans include a splash pad for children and permanent seating for the stage. With the first two phases fully funded, the East Peoria Community Foundation needs to raise at least $200,000 to finish the park.
Levee Park will provide a centrally located community and family gathering place. We can all appreciate the value of parks and public spaces for the community to enjoy. What is special and unique here is that Levee Park will be the anchor to East Peoria’s new and thriving downtown. It is destined to become the iconic face of East Peoria – green, growing, and family-centered.
We are asking local businesses, community leaders, and citizens to help bridge this $200,000 gap. All gifts will be appreciated. You can learn more about Levee Park and make a donation online at www.EastPeoriaCommunityFoundation.org.
